Best Brunch on Tybee

In case you didn’t know, April happens to be National Brunch Month, an appetizing observance in celebration of the popular mid-morning meal. Combining the best of breakfast and lunch, brunch is a revered culinary tradition defined by weekend rendezvous with friends and bottomless mimosas. Tybee boasts several local establishments serving up tasty brunch favorites. And with spring bringing warmer winds, April presents the perfect opportunity to gather your group and head to these island eateries for a memorable and delicious brunch experience.

The Deck Beach Bar & Kitchen

Daily at The Deck from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests can order from their brunch menu, which includes toothsome offerings like shrimp cake benedict, bananas foster French toast and Korean-fried chicken and waffle, among other things. A menu highlight is their OG short rib hash, which consists of braised short rib au jus, smashed avocado, roasted mushrooms, charred tomato and chimichurri, a unique harmony of flavors that really satisfies the palate, and arguably, the soul.

Sea Wolf Tybee

Known for their oysters, dogs and fancy co*cktails, Sea Wolf also hosts brunch on the weekends. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, patrons can dine on the patio while enjoying live country, bluegrass and blues tunes by talented local performers. Indulge in their rotating, hyper-local brunch offerings and toast to the good life with a craft co*cktail in hand.

Fannie’s on the Beach

Boasting beach views and bold bites, Fannie’s offers a delectable Sunday brunch well worthy of partaking in. With flavorful seafood options like topless oysters and blackened mahi tacos and a surf-and-turf shrimp and bacon pizza, Fannie’s has an array of piquant plates that are perfect for brunching by the beach. Be sure to order a Big Ol’ Mary, their signature bloody mary, to enhance your brunch experience.

The Surfing Goat

The Surfing Goat vends signature steamer bagel sandwiches along with specialty coffee drinks that are available to enjoy any day of the week. Their Brunch-ish bagels include inventive creations like the Hellbender — egg, avocado, arugula and inferno hot sauce with herbed cream cheese — seafood-starring sandwiches like Gone Fishin’ — lox, English cucumber, red onion and capers with dill cream cheese — and classic crowd pleasers like their Doin’ Things right, which is your choice of sausage or bacon with egg and cheddar on a plain bagel. Wash ‘em down with any of their traditional coffee drinks or their Tybee Bulldog (White Claw vodka, Du Nord’s coffee liqueur, cream and co*ke) for a little more fun.

Mi Vida

Tybee’s purveyor of cold-pressed juices and delectable dishes made from sustainable ingredients, Mi Vida is a great brunch option for the health-conscious consumer. For an uplifting brunch that isn’t nearly as heavy as some of the traditional offerings (looking at you, chicken and waffles) that you may find elsewhere, try one of their vibrant smoothie bowls, made with fresh fruits and an assortment of other feel-good ingredients. In addition to their regular menu offerings — which include burritos, toasts and other handhelds, Mi Vida frequently has new specials that are well worth visiting for. A recent Saturday special was a crab cake resting on a pool of funky remoulade sauce and topped with collards and a poached egg, which sounds absolutely divine!

Bubba Gumbo’s

Located on Lazaretto Creek, Bubba Gumbo’s is among the best places for fresh, fine, locally-sourced seafood that stars in many of their buzz-worthy brunch plates. Take the blue crab fries as a prime example; it’s a bed of crispy fries seasoned with Old Bay, smothered with crab gravy and topped with a fried egg, green onion and a dash of chili oil for a little heat. While seafood is their specialty, their land-based brunch options are equally delicious. The Mother Clucker — fried chicken, white gravy and bacon jam on brioche — is a decadent guilty pleasure best enjoyed for brunch. Try the brunch salad for a lighter option, or satisfy your sweet tooth with their bananas foster French toast or a warm, doughy cinnamon roll from Auspicious Baking Co. On Sundays, Bubba’s usually offers a bold brunch special, like their fried oyster benny. Be sure to follow them on Facebook to see each week’s special.

The Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club, which has been serving up morning meals on Tybee since 1976, is another spot you can add to your brunch bucket list. Enjoy an assortment of egg-citing eats and tasty meats, which include Italian sausage, chorizo and Polish sausage in addition to your traditional sausage, bacon and ham. Signature options like Helen’s Solidarity (diced potatoes, house-made sausage, green peppers and onions on a hot griddle with eggs and melted cheeses) and Chicken Fried Chicken Breakfast (golden-fried chicken with Cajun mustard and toasted onion gravy and sides of eggs, grits and toast) keep locals and visitors alike coming back for more.

Wet Willie’s

For a chill weekend brunch in a fun atmosphere, head to the Wet Willie’s on Tybrisa Street. They offer a lot more than the boozy frozen daiquiris they’re known for. They also have a pretty robust breakfast/lunch menu, which makes Wet Willie’s an unexpectedly pleasant place to brunch. Try their filling breakfast burrito, featuring eggs, bacon and home fries blanketed in cheese and wrapped up snugly in a tomato-basil tortilla. The biscuits and gravy are good for absorbing up copious amounts of alcohol. And their shrimp and grits don’t disappoint. If you’ve never tasted the good eats available at Wet Willie’s, let Brunch Month be the reason that motivates you to go.
