1. Mohamed Sherif - Researchers @ Brown
Dr. Sherif's training and research integrate computational neuroscience, clinical psychiatry, and brain electrophysiology. He is originally from Egypt, where he ...
Dr. Sherif's lab uses computational techniques to understand microcircuit mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders and their treatment, focusing on schizophrenia, MDD, and OCD. Cortical microcircuit modeling links the molecular and cellular alterations mediated by treatments (e.g., medications, TMS, and DBS) to microcircuit function underlying disease symptoms. To elucidate the microcircuit alterations in various psychiatric disorders, the lab utilizes cortical computer models to interpret resting-state EEG/MEG and ERPs in patients. The lab collaborates with several investigators to analyze EEG datasets from patients to study mechanisms of action of breakthrough treatments, like ketamine and psilocybin, in treatment-resistant depression. Dr. Sherif is a proponent of open science and understands the richness brought by enthusiastic individuals coming from different backgrounds to be involved in computational psychiatry research.
